Community Guidelines
What is expected of everyone here, what will not be allowed through, and what happens when someone tries anyway.
Effective
The seven things this comes down to
Most of what follows is detail. The principles underneath it are short enough to remember:
- Respect people
- Other opinions and perspectives get to exist. Do not insult, demean or attack any individual or group.
- Respect privacy
- Someone else’s personal information is not yours to publish, and consent is not implied by their having told you.
- Keep content clean
- Sexually explicit, violent, terror-related and graphic material is not permitted anywhere on the platform.
- Stay within the law
- Your conduct must comply with the law where you are — particularly every law concerning minors.
- No false information
- Deceptive advertising, fraudulent claims and misleading promotions are not allowed.
- Report what you see
- Reports are the fastest route to action. Use them rather than assuming someone else has.
- Protect minors
- Anything that infringes the rights or safety of a minor is treated as the most serious category there is.
What cannot go in an avatar
Your avatar is the most visible thing you own here, which is why the bar for it is high. Do not upload images containing:
- Sexually explicit material, sexual acts, sexual innuendo, sensitive body parts, or an uncovered body.
- Minors, in any context.
- Blood or graphic injury, weapons, drugs, alcohol or smoking.
- Discriminatory or racist imagery, or anything designed to insult other people.
- Advertising, contact information, or promotion of another app.
What cannot go in an album
The same list applies to photos and videos uploaded to your album — the visibility is different, the standard is not:
- Sexually explicit material, sexual acts, sexual innuendo, sensitive body parts, or an uncovered body.
- Minors, in any context.
- Blood or graphic injury, weapons, drugs, alcohol or smoking.
- Discriminatory or racist imagery, or anything designed to insult other people.
- Advertising, contact information, or promotion of another app.
What cannot go in a nickname
Text carries the same rules as images, plus a couple of its own:
- Sexually explicit wording, sexual innuendo, references to sensitive body parts, or vulgar emoji.
- References to minors.
- Blood or graphic content, rumours presented as fact, discrimination or racism, or insults aimed at other people.
- Advertising, contact information, or the name of another app.
Face verification videos
Where face verification is available, the video has to be taken by you, in decent light, with nothing covering your face.
The avatar, the video show, the photos and the verification video all have to be the same person. If they are not, verification is declined — that is the entire point of the check.
What happens when a rule is broken
Enforcement scales with how bad it was and how often it has happened. Three levels, applied in the order you would expect:
- Warning
- First-time or minor violations. The content usually comes down with it.
- Temporary suspension
- Repeated or moderate violations. Account privileges are limited for a period.
- Permanent suspension
- Severe violations, or serious ones that keep repeating. The account does not come back.
Which level applies is decided on the nature of the violation, not on a points total. Anything touching the safety of a minor skips the ladder entirely.
How to report something
The report and block tools are built into the product and are the fastest route — a report filed in the moment carries the context that an email an hour later does not. For anything involving a minor, use the child safety page, which is read as a priority.
