LivHub Monkey app alternative
A Monkey app alternative that never asks you to install anything
Monkey is built around the phone, and most of what people want from it does not actually need an app. If what you are after is a random video call with a stranger in the next thirty seconds, a browser does that — and skips three steps on the way.
The three steps an app adds
None of these are complaints about Monkey specifically. They are what an install costs on any product, and they are worth naming because the category treats them as free.
- Step 1
The store page
Find it, check it is the right one, read the permissions, wait for the download. On a slow connection that is the whole impulse gone — and impulse is most of why anyone opens a random chat in the first place.
- Step 2
The account
App-first products almost always want one, because an install is only worth it to them if you can be reached again. That is a reasonable trade for them and a cost for you.
- Step 3
The icon
It stays on your phone afterwards, visible to anyone who picks it up. A browser tab does not leave anything on the home screen unless you ask it to.
Side by side
| Monkey | LivHub | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | App first; a store install | A browser tab, on a laptop or a phone |
| To get started | Download, then set up | Open the page, allow the camera |
| Account | Expected in practice | Not needed to reach a live call |
| On your device afterwards | An app and an icon | Nothing, unless you add it to the home screen yourself |
| Who it is for | Check on their site | Adults — 18+ confirmed before the first call |
Where an app is genuinely better
It would be dishonest to pretend the browser wins everywhere. A native app handles notifications, stays signed in indefinitely, and gets first claim on the camera when something else is competing for it. If you use a product daily and want it to interrupt you, an app is the right shape for that.
Random video chat is not usually that product. You open it, you talk to some people, you close it. For that pattern the install is pure cost — and it is the reason this site does not have one.
Questions
What is the Monkey app?
A random video chat product built around the phone — it pairs you with strangers for short live video conversations. It is app-first, which is the main practical difference from a browser-based site.
Is there a Monkey alternative that works without downloading anything?
Yes — anything browser-based, including this site. You open a page, allow camera access once, and you are in a call. There is no store page, no install and nothing left on your phone afterwards.
Does a browser version work as well as an app?
For two-way video, honestly yes. Browsers have handled real-time video well for years. Where a native app still wins is background notifications, which a random chat does not really need — you are either on it or you are not.
Do I need to sign up?
Not to look around or to reach a live call. An account only matters if you want the same person to be able to find you later.
Is it free?
Free to start, with the first stretch of every call free. Beyond that a call runs on a balance and you are told before you get there.
Can I add it to my home screen anyway?
Yes, if you want it to open like an app. That is your choice rather than a precondition, which is the distinction this whole page is about.
