LivHub Video chat filters
Video chat filters: what you can narrow down, and what you cannot
Country, language and region are adjustable. Gender is not — there is no gender filter here, and it is worth saying that on the page rather than letting you find out after signing up.
The filters, in full
- Available
Country
Narrows the pool to people in a place you pick. The most useful one, because it decides what hour it is on the other end.
- Available
Language
Worth setting if you are practising one. Matching someone who actually speaks it is the whole exercise.
- Available
Region
Broader than country. Useful when a single country is too narrow to match quickly.
- Not available
Gender
There is no gender filter. Matching stays random on that axis.
Why there is no gender filter
Partly because it would not work. Nothing about it can be verified — it is a field somebody filled in, and on sites that offer it the field gets filled in strategically often enough to make the filter meaningless.
The other reason is what it does to the room. Filtering by gender turns random chat into a queue where one side waits and the other gets picked through, and that is a different product from the one described everywhere else on this site.
What to use instead
Country, and time. Matching a country eight hours ahead of you is the closest thing to a real filter available here — it decides whether the people you meet are having breakfast, killing a lunch break or up too late, and that shapes a conversation more than any checkbox.
Questions about filtering
Is there a gender filter on LivHub?
No. You can narrow by country, language and region, but not by gender — matching stays random on that axis.
Why not offer one?
Two reasons worth stating plainly. It would be self-reported and therefore unreliable, and on random chat sites a gender filter tends to turn the experience into something closer to a queue than a conversation. Country and language do more for the quality of a call anyway.
What does the country filter actually do?
It restricts who you can be matched with to people in that country. The practical effect is on time of day — matching somewhere eight hours ahead means talking to people at a completely different point in their day.
Does filtering make matching slower?
Yes, inevitably. A smaller pool means fewer people live at any moment. Country plus language at once is where most people notice the wait.
Can I turn filters off again?
Yes, at any point, and the pool goes back to everyone live right now.
Do filters cost anything?
No. They are part of matching, not an upsell.
